DC Harvest

6/20/2016

By DateSpoTtdc | @DATESPOTTDC

From the name, to the food, to the service, everything about DC Harvest makes you feel like you are home right from the moment you walk through the doors. That is not surprising considering this cozy restaurant is owned by brothers Arthur and Jared Ringle who had family members furnish the place, creating a warm atmosphere.

THE MOOD
Combining the pre-existing brick walls and dark wood, with modern brass lights and wallpaper gives this place an updated farmhouse look and feel. All of their ingredients and menu items are home-grown and locally sourced with fresh ingredients resulting in thoughtfully and carefully crafted dishes.

What started as a seemingly normal weekend of friends and happy hours turned into an unforgettable and delicious experience. Through Fork Monkey, a company that brings the stories of talented chefs to life through underground supper clubs, private dinner parties, popups, and food tours, I heard about an opportunity to enjoy some delicious food and meet new people – Hush Supper Club.

For those of you who are not aware of this popular trend, Supper Clubs are opportunities for vetted chefs to invite small groups of people into their homes and share their talents and stories through an intimate dinner. After hearing about the opportunity to attend one of these events, I reserved my spot in line for Hush Supper Club by filling out a form which asked for not only generic information like a name and phone number, but also included more in depth questions such as “an anecdote that would help to describe myself” and a required photo.

By DATESPOTTDC | @Datespottdc

We know breaking up is never easy and would always recommend doing it in private. But sometimes it’s just easier to have the talk over a drink or dinner - especially if you have a nosy roommate lingering. If that time comes, we put together a collection of where to breakup in DC.

Take honest Abe’s advice and tell your partner how you really feel.

You don’t want to have this conversation with someone who hasn’t had their caffeine yet. Plus you're going to need some coffee to help you stay up all night listening to break up music.

7 DC Spots You Need to Hit Up for Your Next #TacoTuesday

By Alex vu | @dcnomster

What did you do last Tuesday? Did you hit up a Taco Bell? Maybe you went “all out” and got a Chipotle burrito with extra guac. Well, either or, you need to step up your game because Taco Tuesday is a weekly ritual that you need to start practicing. Here are seven spots to get you started because I know you can do better.
Chaia
From selling out at DC famers markets to finally making it permanent at their brick and mortar spot in Georgetown, Chaia has taken the taco world by storm with their veggie-based tacos. They’re calling it the “farm to taco” movement, I call it the only thing that would make me convert to vegetarianism. Their Instagram is one of the most Insta-worthy accounts in all of DC. So many colors.

Espita Mezcaleria
This place legit just opened up in Shaw, aka the place to be for the best eats in DC at the moment. Sure, you can order up some tacos, but you’d be missing out on the ceviches and other goodies. For me, it’s the mole. They’ve got a number of variations, but know that each one took hours upon hours to prepare. Plus, this place has some legit mescal; there’s a reason it’s got the word “mezcaleria” in the name.

Margaritas, tequila and tacos, oh my. Here’s where to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in DC.

BLT Steak
For Cinco de Mayo, BLT Steak will be offering its own twist on the classic Sangrita which will be paired with a flight of small-batch 123 Organic Series Tequila. For $30, you’ll get the full flight tequilas with Sangritas (including the classic Sangrita made with fruit, citrus juices and chili powder, a chili infused Sangrita, and a refreshing spicy cucumber, honeydew Sangrita).

El Centro D.F.
On Cinco de Mayo, both locations (Georgetown and 14th Street) will be offering a bottomless buffet featuring authentic Mexican food with a taco, enchilada and fajita station. There will be plenty of sides and passed appetizers like mushroom empanadas, Mexican rice, and shrimp ceviche tostadas. Pair your meal with $6 El Centro Margaritas. Food will be served from 4 - 10 PM, beverages until 2 AM.
