HOW to be a great bar guest (Vol 1)

By THE Anonymous bartender

As a bartender, I’ve realized that the cornerstone of what I do for people is hospitality.  Without it, I am just a walking, talking book of cocktail knowledge that can make a drink.  Understanding the person on the other side of the bar is paramount to creating an experience, not just a transaction.  That doesn’t mean that the person on the other side of the bar is a total tool.

Here each week I will explain how frustrating it can be giving service to people who have no clue  how to conduct themselves at the bar. I will absolutely be grinding an ax as I advise you on how not to piss the bartender off and become an esteemed regular at your favorite bar.

The 2Girls2Cones Guide to the best ice cream in DC

...when the local-vore in you just won’t rest: Dolcezza
Dolcezza’s super seasonal flavors never fail to wow us - not only because of their originality but also because of their high quality, locally-sourced ingredients. This winter we loved the tart Sicilian Blood Orange sorbetto, the soul-warming King Leo Peppermint gelato, and the tasty Banana Foster gelato. For spring, we’re looking forward to a berry-filled menu brought to Dolcezza by nearby creameries and farmers. Run; don’t walk, to one of their eight storefronts, two farmers market stands, or any local Whole Foods to give them a try!

...if you like some science with your frozen dairy: Nicecream Factory
Across the river in Clarendon, Virginia, Nicecream scoops out delicious, made-to-order ice cream right before your eyes. Their frozen dairy is made from fresh & local ingredients. It’s super flavorful and creamy, but the exciting part is watching them use liquid nitrogen to flash-freeze the ingredients, creating a cloud of vapor as the nitrogen is exposed to oxygen. Because the ice cream is made in such small batches, Nicecream Factory’s flavors change regularly. Some 2Girls2Cones’ favorites include cranberry, speculoos, and pistachio.

Inside the District, Love ‘n Faith Community Cafe located in Columbia Heights also serves up delicious frozen dairy with a nitrogen-based science demonstration.

The tell-tale signs are everywhere. Never ending streams of tourists, bipolar weather and cherry trees in full bloom can only mean one thing: spring has arrived in DC. You could elbow your way to the tidal basin or you could head to these bars and restaurants to celebrate Cherry Blossom season with themed food and drink specials. Pro tip: do the latter.
Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken
Get your hands on Astro’s cherry doughnut: cherry filling inside a vanilla doughnut decorated with a vanilla bean cream cheese glaze with a cherry blossom design of buttercream flowers piped on. $3.25 per doughnut, available at the DC and Falls Church locations.
